Work experience

We have a maximum of two work experience placements in the aquarium available each year so if you’re interested, apply as early as possible!

Our placements are ideal for college and sixth form students who are studying biological subjects or want to pursue a career in a zoological field or the animal care industry. Due to the nature of work in the aquarium, we cannot offer placements to anyone under the age of 16.

Placements will include a variety of tasks such as:

  • Basic animal husbandry including daily maintenance of aquarium systems
  • Monitoring of life support parameters – water quality etc
  • Food preparation for the animals in the exhibits
  • Assisting the aquarium team with the delivery of educational packages for school groups
  • Data collection and record keeping

The placements are usually concentrated to 5 days for 1 or 2 weeks. If you are looking for more substantial or long term experience, then please visit our volunteer page.

Please be aware that it is NOT possible for us to accept any placements during half-terms or Easter holidays, or throughout July and August.

To apply for a work experience placement with us, please send a completed work experience application form (Word document/PDF) to curator Matt Davidson on matt@angleseyseazoo.co.uk. To enable the process to go faster, remember to tell us which dates you would prefer, and also what date you need confirmation by.

Please bear in mind that we receive lots of requests for work experience, so if you haven’t heard from us after a month, assume that we will not be able to fulfill your request.

We look forward to hearing from you!
